Deleted Scenes
A Lesson in Eugenics |
ABOUT - This scene was put into the second or third draft of the book, only to be removed in later drafts. So why write something in, only to take it out again?
The original reason for putting it in in the first place was because when Langdon finds out the truth about Freya, he's angry and upset for her hiding it from him. The problem was that he hadn't actually known Freya for that long and so it didn't seem right that he'd be offended by it. So I was left needing an adventure for Freya and the others to go on. The chapter was supposed to build the bonds between characters while also seeing how the Darwin Solution was affecting everyday people. For my final draft I changed things around so that Freya met Langdon far sooner and so the chapter wasn't needed anymore. It would have been a nice addition anyway but ultimately it slowed the pace down too much.
ABOUT - The first thing I ever wrote for this book and it's not even in it anymore! But that's how it goes. I wanted to start things off with an exciting action sequence. The problem with that is you don't really learn too much about the character or the setting or anything really. Fight scenes can be a punchy start to a film or TV show but in a book it doesn't really work that way.
Oh, and with this being the first thing I ever wrote, expect the writing to be... iffy. |
